Nova Scotia's McMusical Grammy Nominees Natalie MacMaster In the footsteps of Anne Murray and Rita McNeil (another 'mcmusical' NS female), Natalie MacMaster was presented in 1999 with an award for "Successful Canadian Woman of the Year". Her traditional recording, "My Roots Are Showing" earned a 1999 Juno Award for "Best Instrumental Album".
Last year, Natalie was awarded both "Female Artist Of The Year" and the "Roots/Traditional Solo Artist of the Year" at the 2000 East Coast Music Awards. Her latest CD "In My Hands" also won her a Juno Award 2000 for "Best Instrumental Album". Now, this 'typical down home Nova Scotia girl with the global sound' has been nominated for a Grammy in the "Best Traditional Folk Album". Considered her best work thus far by many, the nominated CD, "My Roots Are Showing" features guest artist Buddy MacMaster, an uncle to whom Natalie attributes much of her success. Will this small town girl from Cape Breton (Inverness) take home a Grammy from the big city? We hope so.
The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards will be aired on CBS-TV on Wednesday, February 21st from the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8pm EST/PST.
