Barry Colpitts is a folk artist in the true sense of the word. His home on Highway 7 in Tangier attests to that. The house has become a work of folk art in it's own right, with much of its exterior surface being a huge canvas for displaying Colpitts' work.

Colpitts began making his creations 15 years ago as a way to work off stress from his job. Since then he has sold many pieces with a popular line of nudes & topless mermaids outselling the rest. (Wonder why?)

Many of Colpitt's pieces are sea inspired with seagulls and fish being a favourite theme. Barry admits to having an affinity for mermaids.

"It's easy to remember what a nude woman looks like", he jokes. Understandably, the mermaids' faces look vaguely like his wife with many having her blue eyes & long, brown flowing hair.

(This is NOT a mermaid)
