Love the Eastern Shore Beaches

"A glass of wine, a loaf of bread and thou" Imagine your best friend in the whole world snuggled up beside you. Outside, the sound of the wind, the pounding surf and the lonely cry of a seagull... it doesn't get much better than this.

Memories are made in Nova Scotia, one of the most romantic spots in the world. Many well-known getaways offer special weekend packages in winter months and year round.

On Valentine's Day, a honeymoon or any time of the year, why not surprise 'your' significant other with a cosy and romantic getaway for just the two of you? Here are 10 very special Romantic Getaways in Greater Halifax or within a short drive along the coast.

DesBarres Manor Inn - Guysborough, Eastern Shore
Historic Desbarres Manor Inn gets our top billing this year for its romantic ambiance in a seaside setting, excellent food and sheer quality of experience. Find out why DesBarres is becoming known for it's popularity with honeymooners of all ages. Rekindle your romance on the most romantic night of the year at one of Nova Scotia's most luxurious inns. Cozy room for two, with a chilled split of Montaudon Champagne Brut, fresh fruit and cheese. Then on to your candle lit table by the fireside for a special five course tasting menu. The perfect retreat! From $182 per person.

Waverley Inn - Barrington Street
Another Nova Scotia favourite. If you prefer to your snuggles closer to the city, what could be more romantic than four postered canopies, feather beds and jacuzzis in the haunts of former guests Oscar Wilde, P.T. Barnam and Gloria Vanderbilt? Each 19th century room in the Waverley is restored differently and modestly priced with breakfast included. Wine and roses complementary! The Waverley is within walking distance to everything in the downtown/Spring Garden Road area.

Seawind Landing Eastern Shore

Romance is in the air at SeaWind Landing Country Inn. A full night getaway for just $149 incl. dinner and breakfast or choose dinner for two. Note coupon code on web.

Alicion B&B Lunenburg
The Alicion doesn't have a Valentine Special per se, but offers a 25% discount to its $155. rate and deserves a mention for its greening efforts, with natural and organic linens and robes, eco-friendly bath and cleaning products. Coupon code.

Surfside Inn at Whitepoint Lodge
White Point has long been a year round getaway for Haligonians. This February, 'awaken your passions' with an all inclusive schmoosy getaway. Choose one night's accommodation with romantic dinner or book in for the entire weekend. Dancing, live entertainment and a Valentine Buffet are just for starters. $240 and up for the weekend, but so worth it.

Oak Island Inn
Mystery and romance go together like a cloak and dagger. In Mahone Bay, near the site of the real Oak Island mystery, the Oak Island Inn offers Murder Mystery Weekends as well as "fireside retreats', 'winter blues' escapes and one weekend especially for Valentine's Day lovers. Every getaway weekend package presents a theme. If you prefer seclusion, a private oceanfront chalet awaits you.

River Valley Retreat
"Gie me love in her I court, Love to love maks a' the sport..." When Robbie Burns penned these words, he couldn't have imagined that 'New Scotland' on the other side of the Atlantic would have a wild bunch of kilted skiers careening down the Wentworth slopes on his anniversary. Book a private chalet at the River Valley Retreat and ski to your heart's content.

Trout Point Lodge
A new establishment in the heart of the Acadian forest is "restoring the tradition of the great lodges" in Nova Scotia. What's more, Trout Point offers a culinary getaway including gourmet meals prepared by French Master Chefs from New Orleans. Located on the Tusket River near Yarmouth and the Kejimkujik conservation area. Check for winter reservation availability.

Escape to Greater Halifax

Inn on the Lake
Watch the sunset over the lake from your private balcony, then relax in a jacuzzi for two. This year, Inn on the Lake offers a five-course Valentine's Day dinner or romance on the go, with a take home dinner for just the two of you. Special Romance weekender escape starts at $240.

Waverley Inn
What could be more romantic than four postered canopies, feather beds and jacuzzis in the haunts of former guests Oscar Wilde, P.T. Barnam and Gloria Vanderbilt? Each 19th century room in the Waverley is restored differently and modestly priced with breakfast included. The Waverley is within walking distance to everything in the downtown/Spring Garden Road area.
